An antique sampler from my Brenda's personal collection that she has faithfully reproduced and charted for your stitching pleasure. She purchased the antique from a dealer who reportedly bought it from an estate in Connecticut. The sampler has an early sticker on it's backside that states the sampler is from Long Island, New York. This sampler is a prime example of early 19th century schoolgirl embroidery. The antique is worked in mostly silks on linen ground. Brenda has charted the sampler for use of hand dyed cotton flosses that she thought best represented the sampler in it's earlier days, before floss fading occurred. The sampler calls for a 30 count linen. Old Town Blend by R&R would be a good linen color choice. Stitch count 163 wide x 176 high. Size - 10 3/4" x 11 5/8".
I have completed this sampler as well as having the pleasure to see it in person and I can attest that my finished piece sampler is as lovely as the original. It was a pleasure to stitch. I used the recommended 30 ct Old Town Blend and the called for floss.
